WHAT IS OZONE?
OZONE is produced naturally during thunderstorms and can be found at high altitudes. OZONE gas can also be produced in a controlled environment.
OZONE has been used for many years in the purification of water and in hospitals to control infection.
HOW CAN IT HELP ME?
- Patients fear and trauma eliminated.
- OZONE kills more than 99% of all micro-organisms present in tooth dacay.
- OZONE can re-mineralise decay (which can make the tooth immune to further decay)
- OZONE removes volatile sulphur compounds (main cause of halitosis) form root caries.
THE TREATMENT
A small laser is used (the Diagnodent) to look underneath the surface of the teeth. The laser detects areas of bacteria that cause decay,
This gives us an idea of how much decay is present. A special hand piece (HEALOZONE) is then used to apply OZONE to the affected area. Once the bacteria has been eliminated the HEALOZONE unit applies a liquid mineral onto the cleaned area of decay. The healing process of the tooth then commences.
A home kit is provided that contains a mineral toothpaste and mouthwash. Regular use of the home kit will ensure the success of your Ozone treatment.
WILL I FEEL ANYTHING?
No. The laser readings and the application of Ozone are painless. It does not involve any damage to your tooth or gum tissue. There is no need for injections or drilling.
WHAT ARE THE ALTERNATIVES?
Your alternatives to Ozone are traditional treatments that we have offered you in the past. These are:
Fissure Sealants with air abrasion, this involves minimal invasion to the tooth, although this can not guarantee 100% removal of bacteria.
OR
Fillings with injections and the drill, this involves an injection, drilling away the decay and then placing the filling material into the cavity. These usually need to be replaced after 5 to 10 years.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
The current cost of a child's full mouth Preventative treatment is £90.00, this treats all of the teeth in the child's mouth to sterilise and remineralise decay already present and prevent new decay forming.
The cost of treating a tooth that would otherwise require a conventional filling is £50.00, this sterilises and remineralises the tooth and prevents new decay forming.
We also use ozone as standard on all new fillings and replaced fillings to remove decay and ensure sterilisation before the filling to prevent further decay forming. This allows us to keep the size of the filling to a minimum. This is at an additional cost of £10.00.
WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE COST?
- Ozone treatment
- Home kit
- review appoinment to check laser readings. plus second application of Ozone if necessary.
